Introduction to the Dinosaur and Planetary History Website
Welcome
to the world of Dinosaurs and The History of Our Planet. This site was
foremost created as a reference for the basics on many dinosaur subjects and also
includes British Dinosaur Genera. Another aim of the site is to put life on our
planet in context, and to show how all human achievment is just a tiny moment
in the vast history of life on Earth and how Earth itself is just one of 300,000,000,000
stars in our galaxy, many of which have planets, and probably life.
Overview
of the website In broad terms this site touches on the topics
of how solar systems form plus the
real solar systems we know around other stars (known as extra-solar
planets). There is also a page on the recent changes to the view of our
solar system and how stray objects wandering between our planets pose
a very real asteroid threat to civilized areas,
along with comparison images showing potential
impact damage. Such impacts obviously had a severe effect on the development
of life on Earth over the past four billion years. The timeline
of life on Earth shows when the main groups of animals evolved and how
extinction events changed the balance of the ecosystem.
